Just Some of Our Success Stories

So, you want to study Economics at Cambridge

A highly prestigious degree.

The UK’s highest-paying degree, in fact.

You understand that having Cambridge Economics on your CV will open doors for you that others will have to push hard to prise open.

It will kick start your career and continue to pay dividends throughout it.

The contacts you’ll make at Cambridge will bolster your efforts. After all: your network is your net worth.

And more than that, you love economics and want to gain a deep, quantitative understand of how the economy functions. Where better to do that than at arguably the best place in the UK to study economics?

And it’s a big BUT.

You know that for every 7 candidates that apply, only 1 is successful.

And it’s not because the other 6 out of 7 candidates are weak.

They are likely to be straight-A* applicants, who work hard and are the best in their year at school.

They take an avid interest in current affairs and read popular economics books for fun.

They worked hard for their entire application.

And yet, they hadn’t gleaned just how competitive the application process would be.

You know that you need to be within the top 14% of all applicants to be in with a chance of getting that coveted Cambridge Economics offer.

You’ve considered going it alone

But thinking about it again and again, there is too much to lose in leaving it to chance.

You want to be guided by expert Oxbridge-educated tutors who can pick out nuances in your arguments and push you to the next level.

You want to learn the time-saving tricks to speed up with the ECAA so that you actually finish the paper and get a competitive mark.

You want to know that you’ve learnt the best and most efficient methods for the ECAA, so that you can look at a problem and get to the right answer on your first attempt.

You want to be drilled and practised on a huge range of economic concepts. Pushed and prodded, to the point of discomfort, so that the real interview feels like a breeze!

Every part of the application matters and you’ll no doubt be aware that effort x time = success.

Incremental efforts, with the correct guidance, over a long period of time leads to success.

As a Cambridge applicant, you need to:

- Have an impressive, well-expressed personal statement
- Be head and shoulders above the rest in terms of your ECAA test score
- Be able to write an impressive, eloquent and contextually backed essay
- Argue qualitatively and quantitatively about real world economic problems, using your knowledge of economics to back up your assertions

And luckily, our Cambridge Economics Accelerator covers every aspect!

Led by highly experienced Economics and Maths tutors, with plenty of experience in helping students just like you get their Cambridge Economics offer, this Accelerator if for you if you are:

- Serious about getting into Cambridge
- Want a concrete way to boost your preparation in a much more thorough way than your school can provide
- Want an edge over your competition
- Are willing to be push and challenged academically in ways that only experienced, Oxbridge educated tutors will be able to do

At the Oxbridge Formula, we focus on getting students into Oxbridge for a very narrow range of subjects.

We are experts in these subjects.

We’ve helped plenty of other students in your position.

We know the pitfalls, and can identify your weaknesses in an instant.

You can almost feel the tangible difference that we can make on your application.

You’re ready to take your preparation to the next level and we have four options for you:

  • Lead your own revision with our vault of exclusive online video resources Take charge of your own admissions test preparation. Cambridge are looking for self-starters and independent study is absolutely key to success. But only if you know you’re going in the right direction. Our 500+ in-depth videos explain the thought processes of expert problem solvers so you literally start thinking like one.
  • Receive a highly personalised learning experience We’ll work with you to identify areas of weakness across the whole application – personal statement, admissions test, and interview – so that you can accelerate your progress and turbo-charge your application.
  • Empower yourself with our in-depth interview preparation -  One of the most nerve-wracking parts of the entire admissions process (interviews may remain online this year, which will only add to the nerves), the interview is often an area where many otherwise-excellent candidates fail to shine. Together, we'll make sure you're able to show your true potential at interview.

...The Details

🥉🥈🥇💎 Over 500 exclusive online ECAA video solutions (including extra practice questions)
- Available immediately ➤

Students tell us that when they see a solution they get it, but that they would have never come up with this solution on their own.

Our 500+ video solutions have been created by our handpicked team of expert tutors. They have been created to express every thought process, so that you can start to think just like an expert and approach problems in the same way.

This video content and the extra practice questions we provide form the basis of the independent study that Accelerator students will do at home.

You will have access to the online resources for 1 year, i.e. until after your admissions test and interview have both taken place.

“Using the online resources, I felt there was somewhere I could turn every time I had a question!”  –Charlotte

"It's really helpful to see the best way to tackle a question and what to start with. In particular, the use of diagrams to explain problems made a lot the explanations very clear." - Siddharth

🥈🥇💎 Fortnightly Economics and Social Science Workshops ➤

You want to be able to approach interview questions and your admissions test essay with utter confidence. Not a doubt in sight.

For this, you need:

- A healthy store of background knowledge
- To be exposed to to key ideas and their economic, political, and social context
- To practise understanding, discussing, and debating these key ideas and concepts
- To be familiar with the style of argumentation that will be expected of you as a Cambridge candidate in economics

With these 4 skills under your belt, you’ll be able to impress the admissions tutors by creating an essay or producing an answer which hinges on economic or political insights from all the thinking you’ve done about them.

The below are just some examples of topics we’ll be covering with you. In reality, we’re likely to change things up a bit, according to the current affairs stories at the time.

The sessions will involve discussion, argumentation and some interrogation(!). They aren’t lectures and you’ll be an active participant, learning how to express your views with panache.

Each of the following topics can be spun to be relevant to you and your subject. The tutor will bear in mind your subject of choice and angle the question to your subject specialism.

For instance, while a discussion about the HS2 line may at first be seen as a Land Economy topic (in terms of land use, externalities, and transport congestion easing), it can also be addressed to an Economist, as it relates to the merits and drawbacks of using the economic model of cost benefit analysis to quantify the issues behind building and planning HS2.

- What ‘is’ Economics (and what is it not)
- Issues regarding the tragedy of the commons
- The economic problem
- Keynes vs Classical models
- Adam Smith’s theory and its implications today
- The transfer of maths into economics
- Fiscal and monetary reforms of the last 100 years
- The roles of Keynes and Austrian schools of thought in shaping economic policy decisions in 2021
- Synthesis of economic equations in Microeconomics, such as ‘Why is MR twice AR?’
- Elasticity, labour markets, and the theory of the firm
- Behavioural economics - the theory and the real life context of nudges and shoves

Land Economy:

- Compulsory Purchase Orders (and how they impact residents)
- Why are we building HS2?
- How can the theory of the money illusion help us better regulate the banking sector?

Philosophy and Politics:

- Key political moments from the last 100 years and their influence in shaping political thinking and epistemology today
- British vs Japanese vs American vs continental European decision making
- Keynes vs Hayek and the implications of their debates in today’s world

- Models of leadership (via case study and via situational reasoning)
- Global markets and trade and how these are being impacted by different entrepreneurs
- Changes in technology and its impact on the workforce

🥈🥇💎 Recording of Intensive ECAA and Interview Courses - admissions test and interview coaching

Summer Economics Workshops - Themes and Debates

Following directly on from the work you’ll be doing during the regular fortnightly sessions, we’ll dedicate two whole days over the summer holidays to debating issues in more depth.

We encourage applicants in all subjects to watch all sections, as you’ll be able to apply nuances to your thinking if you can tackle any issue from multiple viewpoints.

Maths Admissions Summer School (Maths for ECAA)

Our Maths Admissions Summer School focuses on bringing your knowledge up to par with the way a Cambridge undergraduate would be expected to think.

Getting good and fast at ECAA problems involves developing an intrinsic understanding of maths which goes beyond what you’ll have covered at school.

We spent the summer school looking at various problem-solving techniques which go beyond the A-Level syllabus and will widen your mathematical thinking, stretch beyond what you’ll even need for the ECAA.

- Examine the subtlest aspects of manipulating inequalities
- Perfect your understanding of necessary and sufficient conditions
- Analyse unfamiliar graphs with symmetry tricks
- Master the art of dividing problems by cases

“It’s really engaging as working as a team makes the questions feel less daunting. Moreover the strategies recommended are priceless when it comes to efficiency in answering questions.“  – Edward

“I really enjoyed this course because it allowed me to challenge myself as well as improving my ability to think outside of the box when it comes to finding less obvious solutions to problems.”  – Aisha

“Very good course! Questions covered in lots of detail, wide variety of topics covered and lots of support in case you don’t understand something.”  – Ethan

Exam Technique and Contextual Essay Writing Workshop

The ECAA features a significant essay section on an Economics topic. In this workshop, we covered all the key techniques you’ll need to smash that essay, plus a host of further tips to make your essay stand out.

- A contextual vs. theoretical essay - what’s the difference?
How do you tell what a question is really asking?
- What are the most common topics and the key themes and debates in each?
- What does a good argument in the social sciences look like?
- How can you incorporate your background knowledge into your answer?
- How should you begin analysing a quote or source?
- How should you structure each sentence, each paragraph, and each essay?

🥈🥇💎 1-day Economics group interview course ➤

Dates: Various weekend dates in September - November 2021 - you'll be allocated a space upon registration.

Generic interview prep is rarely very useful, and it can be hard to find realistic interview practice for a highly technical Economics-based interview.

This 6-hour course is completely focused on the ins and outs of an Economics-based interview. Specifically, you’ll be grilled on your personal statement and practise answering tough, never-before-seen questions and explaining your thinking to the interviewer as you go.

Uniquely, you’ll do your interview in front of up to nine other attendees and you’ll have a chance to watch their interviews too, allowing you to work through the questions in real time.

Isn’t that super stressful, I hear you ask?

Basically, yes!

And students who attended this course in the past unanimously told us that the real interviews felt easy in comparison.

“Actually doing a mock, you see the depths the interviewer would explore once you get into the question, which you don't get just from looking up interview questions online. And it's fascinating to see everyone else's mocks and their different approaches." –Katie

"The mock interview helped me to practise how to take advice onboard while attempting a question. It was also very useful in getting used to the sorts of thought process you need to carry out, such as starting with a concrete case and then generalising.

The tutor who asked the interview questions and the tutor who gave feedback afterwards were both very friendly, and they went over the different aspects of your interview in depth to explain what went well and how to improve on other areas." - Thomas
